AFT Massachusetts Stands with AG Campbell Against Trump Administration’s Termination of K-12 Teacher Preparation Pipeline Grants (March 6, 2025)

American Federation of Teachers Massachusetts President Jessica Tang released the following statement in response to today’s announcement that Massachusetts Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell is co-leading a coalition of attorneys general in a lawsuit challenging the Trump Administration’s unlawful termination of grant funding for nationwide K-12 teacher preparation programs (including $6 million in funding for Massachusetts-based programs to address ongoing teacher shortages in Springfield, Holyoke, and Boston):

“Eliminating federal grants that support critical teacher pipeline programs at a time when we already have an educator shortage makes no sense and, at the end of the day, the ones bearing the brunt of this decision will be some of our state's most vulnerable students.

“We applaud Attorney General Campbell for taking action to challenge the legality of this decision and for continuing to stand up for our students, educators, and public schools.

“Public education is a public good critical to our democracy, and we will continue to work together with the Attorney General and the Administration to protect it.”
