Members of the U.S. House of Representatives interrupted their summer recess for a special one-day session on Aug. 10 to pass a $26 billion funding package that will save thousands of educators' jobs and help states maintain vital public services. The 247-161 vote in the House, along with last week's vote in the Senate, is "the ultimate indication of who's for kids and who isn't," says AFT president Randi Weingarten.
On Saturday, April 24th, over 100 early educators met at the Boston Teachers Union Hall in Dorchester for an Advocacy & Leadership Conference. Teachers, assistants, directors, and owners from all over the state came to improve their skills so they could better advocate for children and early childhood education.

The Bessie Tartt Initiative for Children has issued a new report entitled, “The State of the Early Education Workforce: Removing Barriers to Access and Advancement.” The study, based on face-to-face meetings with early educators throughout the state, illustrates the issues of compensation, access to educational opportunities, and the need for prompt action on these important education issues.
